Der Name des Platzes war urspr\u00fcnglich Plaza Nueva (Neuer Platz). Die Plaza Vieja (Alter Platz) entstand 1559 als offener Platz und war der Ort, an dem Todesurteile, Prozesse, Stierk\u00e4mpfe durchgef\u00fchrt und verschiedene beliebte Feiertage gefeiert wurden.<\/p>\n

Seit dem 20. Plaza de la Catedral<\/h2>\n

Die Plaza de la Catedral (Kathedralenplatz) ist einer der f\u00fcnf Hauptpl\u00e4tze in Alt-Havanna.<\/strong> Der Platz beherbergt die Kathedrale von Havanna, die als h\u00f6chster Ausdruck des karibischen Barocks gilt.<\/p>\n

Als Sumpf geboren, wurde der Platz sp\u00e4ter zur\u00fcckgewonnen und als Werft genutzt. Nach dem Bau der Kathedrale im Jahr 1727 wurde der Platz zum Standort einiger der gr\u00f6\u00dften H\u00e4user der Stadt.<\/p>\n

Der Platz beherbergt das Museum of Colonial Art und zahlreiche Restaurants.<\/p>\n

Monumento a M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez<\/h2>\n

Das Denkmal f\u00fcr M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez ist ein skulpturaler Komplex<\/strong> vor dem Malec\u00f3n, der dem General der Unabh\u00e4ngigkeit der Insel M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez gewidmet ist, der Anfang des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts in der Stadt starb. Die Arbeit ist das Ergebnis der Arbeit des italienischen K\u00fcnstlers Aldo Gamba.<\/p>\n

In der Statue ist M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez auf einem Sockel zu Pferd dargestellt,<\/strong> gekleidet in eine Landuniform, mit einem Schwert am G\u00fcrtel und einem Hut in der rechten Hand. Monumento a los Estudiantes de Medicina<\/h2>\n

Das Monumento a los Estudiantes de Medicina (Denkmal f\u00fcr die acht Medizinstudenten) ist ein Skulpturenkomplex im griechischen Stil<\/strong> der 1890 eingeweiht wurde, als Hommage an die acht Medizinstudenten, die 1871 in Havanna erschossen wurden, und auf Dr\u00e4ngen von Ferm\u00edn Vald\u00e9s Dom\u00ednguez, der nach der Hinrichtung seiner Kameraden versuchten, ihre Unschuld zu beweisen.<\/p>\n
