The Ron Ligero
But the first documented distillation of Ron dates back to the 17th century in the Caribbean. At that time, slaves realized that a distillate could be produced from the fermentation of molasses. This distillate was consumed without aging and probably at full strength.
Today, Cuban ron is known as a light and precious distillate, filtered and clarified, with a soft and never overpowering taste.
